Description:
There are many Milwaukee area non-profit community based organizations (CBOs) that are trauma facing in one way or another. Some organizations work to heal trauma, others assist survivors of traumatic circumstances to rebuild their lives, and others design programming to mitigate the effects of traumatic events or environments. Leaders of these organizations work tirelessly to fulfill the mission of their organizations and often live in the communities they serve, making it challenging to draw boundaries between work and personal time. Consistent with literature on helping professions, CBO leaders report burn-out, compassion fatigue, and even symptoms of vicarious trauma as a result of their work. The Resilience Reservoir in the SWIM HUB supports wellness programming designed to promote resilience and to “fill up their cup, so that they can continue to pour out into the community”. CBO leaders can come to the HUB to manage their stress, engage in individual or group wellness activities such as yoga or deep breathing, or experience a one-on-one service such as massage, acupuncture, or reike.
