Description:

Green County's Nutrition Program

The nutrition program provides tasty, nutritious meals on a donation basis to people 60 and older and some disabled adults. There are two ways to participate in the program - one might be right for you!

Dining centers:
Meals are served in a group setting at dining centers located throughout Green County. Enjoy good food in a casual, relaxed environment where you can make new friends while getting high quality nutrition.

Home-delivered meals:
For older people who are unable to travel to a dining center, home-delivered meals are a good option. Friendly volunteers bring a hot meal right to your door and spend a few minutes chatting with you about your day.

Five reasons to use the Nutrition program:
Reason #1: Good nutrition can help you stay healthy

No matter what your age, eating a nutritionally balanced diet plays a big role in your overall health. As you get older, your nutritional needs can change and getting proper nutrition can become even more important. Working with our registered dietician, we assure our nutrition program meals meet at least 1/3 of the daily recommended dietary requirements for participants and can help you maintain your health and independence.

Reason #2: Delicious meals
Let's face it, even healthy food needs to taste good. Nutrition program meals are a tasty alternative to restaurant and home-cooked meals. Studies show that people who participate in the meal program are very satisfied with the quality, taste, and variety of their meals.

Reason #3: Specialized diets
Meals can be customized and prepared to accommodate people with special dietary considerations. Special diet options include, but are not limited to: Diabetic, Cardiac, Renal, Low Sodium, Soft, Lactose Intolerant, Bland.

Reason #4: It's easy, economical & convenient
With a simple call you can receive a meal, in most cases, within 24 hours. For a home-delivered meal, call the Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) or call your local dining center for reservations. That means limited shopping, no cooking, and no clean-up. What could be simpler? Meals are a good value for participants 60 years of age and older and some disabled adults. Donations toward meal costs are encouraged.

Reason #5: See some friendly faces
The nutrition program offers more than just healthy food. Our dining centers provide great opportunities to meet new people, gather with friends, and even learn new things. Fun and interesting events or programs are often scheduled before or after meal time. If you're receiving home-delivered meals, a friendly volunteer will stop by to bring you your meal.

For a Dining Center reservation, contact your local Dining Center. To see a list click the ADRC Nutrition link provided or call (608) 328-9499.
