Description:
Mental Health Redesign
The Milwaukee County Mental Health Complex and Psychiatric Crisis Services emergency room, located for 40 years at 9455 W. Watertown Plank Road in Wauwatosa, have officially closed.
This closure marks a new and major milestone in the transformation of the county’s mental health system into a national best-practice system that includes community-based care and the nation's first public-private partnership mental health emergency center.
The closure of the Mental Health Complex does not change Milwaukee County’s commitment to behavioral health services or the scope and quality of services available. Through the mental health redesign, Milwaukee County residents can now access behavioral health services closer to home at more locations across the county instead of traveling to one location.

On Sept. 6, 2022 the new Mental Health Emergency Center at 1525 N. 12th Street in Milwaukee started accepting emergency psychiatric patients. Granite Hills Hospital, the new inpatient behavioral health hospital located at 1706 S. 68th St. in West Allis, opened in January of 2022 and is also accepting patients.
