Home Health Care agencies provide a range of skilled nursing care, physical and occupational therapy, speech-language therapy, and medical social services in the comfort of home. Services may include medication management, wound care, diabetic care, colostomy care, injections, ventilator care, tracheotomy care. Personal care provides assistance with activities of daily living (eating dressing, bathing, toileting, transferring in and out of bed, taking oral medicines correctly). The cost of such services may be covered by Medicare, Medicaid, or by privately paying.
Medicare helps cover home health care costs for people with Medicare who meet the following conditions: Your doctor must prescribe home health care and make a plan for your care at home; You must need at least one of the following: intermittent skilled nursing care, physical therapy, speech-language therapy, or continue to need occupational therapy; You must be homebound, i.e. normally unable to leave home unassisted; and the home health agency must have Medicare's approval.
