Applications for CRISIS assistance are accepted when funds are available. Homeowners may be eligible for crisis assistance if the home has no heat, if they have received a disconnect notice from the heating vendor or are disconnected, or they are nearly out of fuel and are unable to purchase more. To be eligible, account holders must have made a minimum of four monthly payments of $35 each, totaling a minimum of $140 in the six months prior to the request for a crisis grant. You must make payments for the specific months to which they apply -- you cannot make one lump sum payment at the time of your application. No exceptions. Applicants must meet Energy Assistance guidelines. You may apply only if you are disconnected or under a threat of disconnection (must have a disconnection notice). If you have a large balance on your account you must attend a workshop and meet with a Case manager before crisis funds can be released. If you have been awarded a crisis grant multiple times, you will be required to attend a workshop and may be required to meet with a Case Manager. You may be granted only one crisis grant within a 9 month period.

HOMEBOUND individuals applying for CRISIS assistance should call COMMUNITY ADVOCATES at 875-2011 and leave one message only.

Applicants for CRISIS funding who have received Energy Assistance for the current heating season may apply over the phone by calling SDC's energy assistance hotline at 906-2800.
